Everyone needs breakfast. It is truly an important meal-it jump starts your metabolism for the day and gets you going. My breakfasts usually consist of a protein shake (they can be really good!) but on Sundays, our family pulls out all the stops and makes a big huge traditional breakfast. It has become a tradition that we all look forward and it just sets the pace for our Sundays.
We go all out-juice, milk, fruit, eggs, bacon and some form of main breakfast item. Crepes, french toast, waffles etc.. Since we started having these Sunday breakfasts, I have tried numerous pancake recipes. They have all been good, but not great.
Last Sunday I decided to just wing it and throw together my favorite pancake elements into a new recipe.
OH. MY. GOODNESS.
You MUST try these pancakes.
I repeat:
YOU MUST TRY THESE PANCAKES!!
They are without a doubt the best I have ever had. They beat any restaurant pancake I've had, any version at all.
The batter is light and fluffy, thanks to the whipped egg whites and smells like an amusement park when cooking, thanks to the vanilla. It's just.. it's just.. heavenly.
All morning long, I felt like Supermom. My family went on and on and on about how amazing the pancakes were.
The recipe is over in the sidebar, enjoy! And have a great weekend!
PS-I know I mentioned I was going to show you Dustin's Valentines present (it turned out so awesome) but I want to check with him first to make sure he won't be too embarrassed if I share it. I'm sure he'll say it's ok (he doesn't embarrass too easily) but I just haven't gotten around to mentioning it to him. Maybe I'll ask him Sunday morning over amazing pancakes? ;)
PPS-Kathy is back to blogging! She's had a heavy couple of months, so hop on over and welcome her back to the blogosphere and enter the giveaway that going on!

Hey Sandi,
I would love to try these. How do you get the "recipe" card to be full size printout? I can't quite read the instructions as they are.
Thanks...

Sandi, these pancakes look fabulous! And the way you have it printed up is so cute. If you don't mind me asking...What program did you use to create your cute recipe sheet?

Every time I try to download the pancake recipe file, my computer tells me it's damaged. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hi there!
On the side bar, there is a section for Recipes. If you click on the Sunday Morning Buttermilk Pancakes link, you should be able to either open it or save it.
Let me know if this works!

I was able to open it by saving it first. Weird that it still won't open directly for me when your pie recipe will. I look forward to try them out.

Okay, I made these this morning and they are delish! Thanks for sharing!

I made those pancakes this morning. My husband loved them. My only problem was that I made enough for 10 people and only one of us ate them. I am experimenting. I put them on a cookie tray and froze them then put in a baggie and in the freezer. I am going to try toasting then for breakfast.

I must try them?! I thought to myself, "How different can they be?" I'm not usually that cynical ... really! So I whipped them up this morning, and let me tell you, You Must Try Them!!! They really are scrumptious. I had leftover batter, so I put it in the refrigerator to see if they will be as delicious tomorrow morning. I'll let you know.
Thank you for sharing. It was your insistence that I try it, and I'm so glad I did. You are the best!

We made them yesterday also, and had leftover batter. I had one this morning and it wasnt quite as fluffy, but still really good!
Im glad you tried them and liked them!!

mm mm!! I cannot wait to try it out: I've been trying to perfect my own pancake recipe lately so I cannot wait to compare.
Here's a version for whole wheat buttermilk griddlecakes: these are so hearty and filling, but have just enough 'fluff' too!
1 cup whole wheat flour (or 2/3c flour and 1/3 cornmeal)
1 cup buttermilk
4 Tblsp Oil
2 Tblsp honey
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
my mom has some magical recipe whereby she mixed up all the dry stuff in large quantities and then can just scoop it out and whip it up whenever she wants. amazing

Hi again! Day two of pancake batter, and I agree with you, just as yummy. At first I thought it might not work as the batter had fallen quite a bit, but the taste was not affected. My conclusion is to turn down the heat a bit because the batter was cold, so the outside got a bit more brown because it had to go a bit longer to heat up the middle.
Thanks again! See, I mean, read ya soon!

Oh my goodness, you were right, these are the best pancakes I've ever made or eaten! I only had a 1/2 cup of buttermilk, however, so I reversed the milks; used 1/2 cup buttermilk and 3 cups regular milk. They turned out great and I bet will be even better next time when I'm better prepared!

Yummy!! I absoulutely love pancakes but I don't like to eat them out. Not the same as sitting at the kitchen table in your jammies with the morning paper. Thanks for the delicious and very beutiful recipe!

I read about your pancakes and had to make them for my family. The only change I made was adding blueberries, well, because that's how we roll. Gotta have the blueberries. They were so phenomenal that I had to blog about them. It was one of those,
stop-everything-moments where I felt it was my responsibility to let everyone I know about these pancakes. Thank you for sharing. Please feel free to visit my blog and see how crazy I went with love for your pancakes!

I looked up your blog from the March issue of Real Simple magazine. I've just perused around but I will be coming back often now. I watched the Create video on the side there. Thanks.
