Shall I break that down a bit for ya?
OKAY, wait.
First off, thank you all so much for the croup suggestions and virtual shoulders to cry on. I truly thought that we were the only ones dealing with this. Shows how much I know, huh? I am taking every suggestion (that we haven't already tried) to heart and will let you know how it works out.
My little girl is SIX. As is, years OLD. I can't believe it.
She woke me up on her birthday and we had a short conversation that went something like this:
ME: "oh!! my little baby is six now! whaa!!!"
HER: "No I'm not. We haven't had my cake yet. You need to get up and make my cake."
ME: "I'm pretty sure you're six."
HER: "Nope, I need a cake. Can you get up now please?"
ME: "Oh.. well.. okay"
Later on in the morning..
HER: "Guess what?"
ME: "What?"
HER: "I'm not a little girl anymore, so it's okay for me to call you MOM instead of MOMMY."
ME: (crickets)
Yep. Anyhow-
Eliza has an interesting mix of likes. She loves pink and girly things, but there needs to be a bit of non girly in there too. For the LONGEST time she has been over the moon about dinosaurs. It used to kinda make me scratch my head, but now I think it is fabulous. No matter how many of her buddies like Barbie best (which she does like) she will not be swayed from dinosaurs being her thing. I hope she keeps it up when all the other girls tell her it's time to kiss boys. I have to say the "How to Train Your Dragon" has definintely thrown dragons into the mix, but that's just fine by us.
So when it came time for birthday planning, she told me she wanted a Barbie / Dragon / Dinosaur cake. ??? Maybe Dinosaur excavation barbie who trots the globe on her Night Fury? Don't know, but I certainly didn't feel up to it, so this is what we came up with:
Dublin- my little sister landed in Dublin this morning for a MONTH long tour of Europe. Harumph. My littler sister spent spring break in New York. Double harumph. I have never been to either places nor have I even been out of the country! So I've decided I can't let my little sister's stand me up and I am going to just plan a trip to Europe and design some fabric while I'm there. Anyone have any good resources for European travel?
I got a few emails from people today saying that they got my book delivered to them! I don't even have a copy of it myself! So anyway, it is starting to ship, so look for it if you have it preordered!
I will be signing copies of it in my booth at Quilt market if you happen to be coming! I'll be around the majority of the time, so stop by. The show is wholesale only and not open to the public, but if you are in the Minneapolis area, I will also be doing a signing at Quilted Treasure on May 19th from 6-8. If you are interested in coming, here are the specifics.
Also, we will be taking a trip this summer to the Seattle / Portland areas and in-between. If you would like to sponsor an event, signing, or class with moi, please let me know. We are planning for the end of July, early August.
And just a parting question for you- is it fair that roses seem to be able to pull off amazing beauty even when they are on the way out? Just wonderin.
xo-
Sandi

I ordered your book today. Can not wait to get it in the mail!
There is a timeless beauty even in wilting flowers. I have always admired flowers for how incredibly tender they are yet absolutely brave to show up in this world for a fraction of a time to share their stunning beauty and hypnotizing aroma.

Ha! Dinosaurs are so cool! By the time my daughter was 7 she could name a bazillion different dinosaurs, now at 11...she's moved on and doesn't really care to remember their names. But she's crazy about the movie. :)
The cupcakes are beautiful.
Oh, please travel to Europe and be inspired by everything. No good resources from me, unless you count my brother-in-law from Czech Republic who now lives in Denver, but PBS has quite a bit of info. Hold on.....
Okay, had to google it...Rick Steves has an incredible travel show on PBS that sucks me in every time. Here's his site:

Happy Birthday Eliza! My little one will be 6 soon and it is hard for me to believe. However she is not the pink girly dinosaur lover. Well, pink and girly , yes but dinosaurs, not so much. My 18 year old girl has always been nuts about dinosaurs. Maybe I should make her graduation cake with dinosaurs on top...It's a thought.

Happy birthday to Eliza, oh to be 6 again.
Definitely go to your local library and borrow a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide for Europe. There are so many great countries here, my suggestion would be to not try and visit too many countries at once, each has a wealth of history, architecture and things to do. Have fun planning your trip.

I got your book on Tuesday also! (squeal!!) I met the mail person out in our driveway as she was walking up with my package! It is wonderful! I want to go through the projects one by one and blog about it like Julie and Julia!!:) We'll see if I actually get that done! It truly is fantastic though. I was really anxious last night because my son started on some new meds and he was saying he felt weird & felt like he needed to flap his arms and his shoulders were falling off and stuff like that. Me, being a total freak about not wanting to take medication or give it to my kids anyway had a little anxiety about this (ok, a lot). So, I got your book and began looking through at each project. It really calmed me, and inspired me. There is not a project in there that I don't want to try. They also all look very do-able, which is nice. So, thanks! Love it! Always excited to see what you have coming next. You have been blessed with much talent.

I just went to southern Germany with the hubs a few weeks ago and I highly recommend a visit to Bavaria. The Alps are beautiful and there are some pretty amazing castles. The color, the culture, the people, the FOOD...all fabulous! Rothenberg is also a must see. Rick Steve's has a book, but I don't recommend it as he enjoys wine...a lot, and if you don't then it really isn't so much fun. His PBS shows are excellent though. I am certain you will find inspiration for beautiful designs here.

I have twin girls that will be 6 in August and both of them LOVE dinosaurs, especially my Kaitlyn. It doesn't matter what she is playing with the dinosaurs always get thrown in the mix. There's nothing like seeing Veternarian Barbie mending broken dinosaur legs! HA! I hope mine never lose the interest in them. Happy Birthday to your sweet 6 year old!

Portland! Oh my! Yay! Yay! Yay! I'll put on my thinking cap and see what we might be able to cook up out here for you :)
My youngest has a couple more months before she turns six and outgrows me. *sigh* Seems like yesterday I was making itty bitty little clothes for her.
Congrats on your book! I can not wait to get my hands on my copy. I'll be at the party at Quilt Market. Yippee!
