Shall I break that down a bit for ya?
OKAY, wait.
First off, thank you all so much for the croup suggestions and virtual shoulders to cry on. I truly thought that we were the only ones dealing with this. Shows how much I know, huh? I am taking every suggestion (that we haven't already tried) to heart and will let you know how it works out.
My little girl is SIX. As is, years OLD. I can't believe it.
She woke me up on her birthday and we had a short conversation that went something like this:
ME: "oh!! my little baby is six now! whaa!!!"
HER: "No I'm not. We haven't had my cake yet. You need to get up and make my cake."
ME: "I'm pretty sure you're six."
HER: "Nope, I need a cake. Can you get up now please?"
ME: "Oh.. well.. okay"
Later on in the morning..
HER: "Guess what?"
ME: "What?"
HER: "I'm not a little girl anymore, so it's okay for me to call you MOM instead of MOMMY."
ME: (crickets)
Yep. Anyhow-
Eliza has an interesting mix of likes. She loves pink and girly things, but there needs to be a bit of non girly in there too. For the LONGEST time she has been over the moon about dinosaurs. It used to kinda make me scratch my head, but now I think it is fabulous. No matter how many of her buddies like Barbie best (which she does like) she will not be swayed from dinosaurs being her thing. I hope she keeps it up when all the other girls tell her it's time to kiss boys. I have to say the "How to Train Your Dragon" has definintely thrown dragons into the mix, but that's just fine by us.
So when it came time for birthday planning, she told me she wanted a Barbie / Dragon / Dinosaur cake. ??? Maybe Dinosaur excavation barbie who trots the globe on her Night Fury? Don't know, but I certainly didn't feel up to it, so this is what we came up with:
Dublin- my little sister landed in Dublin this morning for a MONTH long tour of Europe. Harumph. My littler sister spent spring break in New York. Double harumph. I have never been to either places nor have I even been out of the country! So I've decided I can't let my little sister's stand me up and I am going to just plan a trip to Europe and design some fabric while I'm there. Anyone have any good resources for European travel?
I got a few emails from people today saying that they got my book delivered to them! I don't even have a copy of it myself! So anyway, it is starting to ship, so look for it if you have it preordered!
I will be signing copies of it in my booth at Quilt market if you happen to be coming! I'll be around the majority of the time, so stop by. The show is wholesale only and not open to the public, but if you are in the Minneapolis area, I will also be doing a signing at Quilted Treasure on May 19th from 6-8. If you are interested in coming, here are the specifics.
Also, we will be taking a trip this summer to the Seattle / Portland areas and in-between. If you would like to sponsor an event, signing, or class with moi, please let me know. We are planning for the end of July, early August.
And just a parting question for you- is it fair that roses seem to be able to pull off amazing beauty even when they are on the way out? Just wonderin.
xo-
Sandi

Happy belated birthday, Eliza!
I got your MOM's book yesterday in the mail and cannot put it down. It's so much fun!
Hugs to you both - and I hope you and your creative family had a most blessed time on your special day - and all the special days still to come. (Psst - in our family, we celebrate pre-birthdays and post-birthdays, just to extend the fun - even extending it to post-post-post-birthdays, etc. So have it!)

Hi! Love your blog but never commented before.
First Happy Birthday to your daughter. My soon 4-year old son also likes dinosaurs, but LOVES pink princesses dresses and HEllo Kitty balloons, and golden princess crowns. My soon 6-year old son LOVES dinosaurs. Isn't it great with diversity and how children can hopefully inspire each other with their differences?
Those are amazing cupcakes!
Europe? We live in Stockholm, Sweden, and I really reccomend it! and the Swedish countryside in the Summer is so beautiful!
I actually come from Lisbon, Portugal, which is also a beautiful city to visit!

Ohhh, I will be at Market and so I will definitely be stopping by your booth to get a copy of the book!
Your daughter's party looks like it was lovely! She sure picked a fun theme and I'm sure everyone had a wonderful time!

Sandi! Those cupcakes look absolutely scrumptious and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that cupcake display!! It's so YOU! The flowers next to the cupcake are absolutely gorgeous. I love roses because they age gracefully and have a timeless beauty. Hopefully I'll be like that when I get older (I can dream, right?!) Now I'm in the mood to go get pink and yellow roses. :)

Hello from Montgomery, Alabama! Thank you for the cupcake ideas. My almost four year old priss-pot little girl is totally into TRAINS.... go figure. I have been looking for a way to make her obsession into a cute birthday party.

Hi Sandi - super duper congrats on all your new books and sites and such! I LOVE your cupcake solution - such a darling mix of flowers and dinosaurs. Too perfect.
Good luck on your last minute preps for quilt market! I'm really, really excited because I'm actually going! Some friends are starting up a quilt shop here in VA and they're letting me tag along. Looking forward to meeting you in person!

Hi there, thank you for all the eye candy - I absolutely love your designs (website, fabrics, you name it!)! For your travel to Europe, I have two recommendations:
*First, the "DK Eyewitness Travel Guides" are absolutely amazing. Detailed information with excellent pictures and suggestions for walks, etc, all visually presented. I have found them at Books-a-million, but these are probably easy to find;
*Two, I have heard that if you buy tickets (online) ahead of time, you avoid any time waiting in line with other tourists - as you can go directly to the entrance at museums, etc. Pls refer to www.polkadotchair.com for details, she has posted about a recent trip to Paris quite a bit, and has a delightful blog.
Good luck, and I can't wait to check out your new book. Congratulations!

Well, this is a very late comment, but I have an interesting resource for European travel. A friend of mine specializes in the business of immersing oneself in a foreign place so that your vacation is more like living there. At least, that's what I understand :-). Only having been in Paris for 3 days, myself, I am only a friend, not a client, lol.
NAYY, and all that, but you can email me if you'd like me to get you in touch; she's a super wonderful woman, an extraordinary singer and musician, and well-traveled. What wonderful credentials :)
