I've been feeling a little down the last 4 or 5 days because I somehow managed to put a major crink in my back last week. Most likely due to the shoveling and moving that I've been putting into this:
My back has hurt. Bad. The kind of hurt that actually made me tear up a little bit every now and then, not because of the pain, but because it has kept me from doing anything. Or so it has felt. I know that isn't the case, but I've given in to a little bit of self pity.
This morning, since I couldn't work in the garden, I used my early morning time to put away some laundry and linens. As I was folding (no sir-ee, I do not iron before I put these things away, I like the rumpled look) I glanced down and had a little double take.
Do you see it? Here, look again:
Do you see it? Everything is either handmade by me or a handmade gift from a friend.
When Dustin and I started our little family, I had dreams of being surrounded by the signs of our years together at the end of our lives. Little pockets of stories and creativity and kids and food and games and friends and good times wherever you turn. Obviously some hard times, but mostly good.
Our little family is still young, but look-it's happening.
And now, my back doesn't hurt quite so badly.

I too just got over a very sad time. It's nearly a week that my right shoulder hurt so much that I could not sit still or sleep without feeling the pain. If I keep myself busy (and further agravating the pain), I don't feel it.
Luckily I had some leftover pain killer and gel patch which I put on my shoulders for two nights. Thankfully I woke up without the pain. Now am taking care not to exert myself.
It is a very scary period because not only I cannot quilt, but when I am resting I feel the pain the most.

Physical limitations can really get the best of our spirits, cant they? I just keep reminding myself that this is a temporary setback in my life, and I am blessed with good health the majority of the time.

Oh my goodness...I love this! It puts into words what I've been feeling...especially lately! While I am enjoying this time of my life with my little ones very much, I also look forward to the day when I get to show my grandchildren all of the many wonderful things from our family's early years. You're making me want to go make a bunch of little things for the kids right now...
Hope your back feels much better soon!

You inspire me Sandi. You have conquered the "slow down and take it all in with the family" life as well as having a dream carreer. Amazing. Hugs to you and your sore back and your beautiful handmade life! xoxo

What a lovely thought, to be surrounded by your "life". Lucky you. I think I'll try to work my way towards that too. Talk about leaving some memories for your family!
BTW, your garden looks awesome, even at the expense of your back! Take care.

It is fantastic. I don't iron, either. I put things in the dryer for a quick spin.

So sorry about your back. As much as I hate physical limitations they always make me suddenly appreciate 'normal' and not take it for granted any more. I love your piles. So pretty.
Hope your back is feeling better soon!!
