I woke up this morning to let the chickens out of their coop. I went outside at 7, the same time that has been greeting me lately with a dewey freshness in the air. This morning however, greeted me with an autumnal chill. Chilly to the point that I had to pull on a jacket to go about my morning chores. I found myself growing increasingly sad, to the point that I ended up crawling back into bed and taking a nap.
The change of the seasons does this to me for some reason, but I'm determined to make the transition through fall and winter this year a good one. It caused me to think, why does this get me down? And I remembered the photos that have sat on my desktop for about 3 weeks without being touched. Photos of Eliza wearing the clover crown that I made for her while she swam in the backyard. Photos where she looks so beautiful and grown up, that I haven't been able to touch them - because they give my heart that similar pang that the changing of seasons brings. Change.
Why does it affect us (me) so? Because it is unknown. I find that I am happy to welcome change during times of my life that I'm ready to be done experiencing. But when I am thoroughly enjoying life, nothankyou, change.
I'm making two goals over the next few months. (I don't make new years resolutions, but prefer to make goals throughout the year when the inspiration strikes.) First, allow in the change. Change of seasons, change to cooler wardrobe, change to earlier sunsets, changes in the order of our home - I'm letting it in and welcoming it. Second - I'm going to learn how to knit. Of all the crafty endeavors I have tackled in my days, I've never tried knitting. And we have such perfect Montana winters.. a knitters dream!
Change can be good.
But while it's still warm..do you still have a field of clovers? I highly suggest taking the time to weave a crown, it is a perfectly perfect down time activity.

Sandi, I am Right. There. With. You. on the change of seasons thing. I have been known to break down in tears on the first barely-perceptible-to-anyone-else "chilly" evening of fall. I treasure summer, even here in central Texas where we are withering after months of 100+ temps and no rain to speak of, I know I'll be sad when it's over.
All you can do sometimes is focus on all the great things to do in the new season. I'll be happy if we can get a break in the heat wave and I can plant some cool-weather veggies!

I might just be exactly opposite. I felt that chill this morning and went right out and bought Pumpkin Spice candles. My husband just laughed and reminded me that I have at least another month before anyone could rightly call it fall. I'm not sure it's the change I love, per se, but the freshness. Most especially, I love the slowing that fall brings. I hope you find your happiness in the coming seasons. Fall is my favorite of them all.

I am right there with April. I love the change back to Fall and I even like winter...nuts huh? Don't get me wrong..I love summer and all the fresh produce and swimming, beaches, late evenings, but I look for Fall to come each year.
Could be that light is a BIG thing for you Sandy and if so, just keep busy doing things you love. Grab as much sunshine as you can and if you take up knitting, I'm willing to bet you'll knit the season away. Everything you do is awesome...so I just see some clever knitting projects in the future.
BTW...I love the clover chain, she is so very sweet. I remember doing this as a kid. I gotta go see if the Mr. mowed all ours down.
til next time, susie.

Now I also dread the change of season from summer to fall, but LOVE winter to spring change!
Missed the scrap bags again :(

I love the changing seasons--living where there's four seasons now makes me so happy-I don't have time to get tired of one before another one comes along. :-) There are changes that I do dread though, so I definitely understand.
I missed the scrap bags again! Those must be flying out your door!!

Oh, how I long for even the slightest hint of a chill! Down here in southeast Texas, we are on day 47 of triple digit temperatures. Ugh!
