This year is going to be awesome! You know why? It's a green year. Pantone has claimed Emerald to be the color of the year. Now, I must take a color snob moment and make a disclaimer that I actually think Pantone usually is a year late in their color declarations, and at least a few shades off. However, green is my color! So I am going to ignore my forementioned snobbery and jump for joy that my (it can be yours too) color is the shade of the year.
Now, as I mentioned, I think they are a few shades off. I think the real color that is winner at the moment is Jasper Green. Ooohh.. Jasper. I was playing around with my watercolor palette a few weeks ago because I realized I had too many greens that were very similar in shade. I tested them out, playing around with different combos and found Jasper to be the winner of the moment for me.
If you google Jasper Green, you will probably end up with a lot of different shades. There isn't really a standardized color system going on out there, which can make it really tricky when buying art supplies. I happen to have two "Cadmium Orange" colors in my watercolor palette because they are waaayy different colors.
My Jasper green is a clear, deep green with a blue undertone, just enough to make it not Emerald but not quite to turquoise. Yep, that's the green sweet spot.
I've been doing some painting exercises.. trying to minimize brush strokes to ovoid over working things, but I don't have that lightness yet that makes it look as though the paint just fell onto the paper and landed all beautiful-like. That's why they call it practice I 'spose.
When I was searching Jasper Green, I found these awesome messenger bags via SwankySwans. I just wish you could see the inside of the bag. bummer
Little announcement - I am soon going to be switching blogging hosts. Typepad has been good to me, but I am finding more and more road blocks in the direction I would like to take my blog and have finally decided to move to Wordpress. Unfortunately, I didn't buy my blog domain when I started up, so I am going to have to change it completely and won't be able to redirect readers automatically. (At least as far as I understand.) So, I want to make my first few weeks in the new spot extra great to help get everyone used to the new space. It's going to be great, assuming I figure out these coding issues (not my thang at all.) Would anyone like to join forces with me to make my new blog launch great? If you have a tutorial, project, recipe, inspirational story etc.. that you would like to share, please reach out to me! I won't be going live with this blog for a little while, but the cogs are turning on it.
xo

For what it's worth, I find WordPress very easy to use. I have created two sites with WP (one personal, one for my alumni association), and both were pretty seamless. You might still have the option of purchasing your domain name, if someone else hasn't already done so. Not the .typepad.com part, but perhaps straight-up www.portabellopixie.com could be your new home. In that sense, we followers will have to reset our bookmarks and RSS subscriptions.
Best of luck! I do love seeing your creative process behind the fabric prints.

Thanks Marliese,
I do own the www.portabellopixie.com domain, I at least though ahead that much. :)

best of luck with the transfer :)

Changing blog hosts could be exciting! I mean that in a good way, lol. New year, new focus, new inspiration!

I made the switch. It took me a year to really decide, but I AM SO HAPPY THAT I FINALLY CHANGED! I have designed and coded several blogs besides my own. I love WordPress. It gives me so many options that are invaluable. Here's my landing page (http://www.theredheadriter.com)
I have a "blogging tips" section on my blog that is filled with info and tutorials for blogging. (http://www.theredheadriter.com/category/blog-tips/wordpress/)
I would be happy to help you with any questions you have about the switch. Jot me a line and I will send you my phone number if that would make it easier. (http://www.theredheadriter.com/contact/)
It is a lot of work making the switch, but I PROMISE you won't ever regret it. I am so happy with my blog and all the freedom I have to make it unique.

Yay!! I have WP and so does Will. He hosts quite a few WP blogs. No spam! Love it! It catches it all.
From my understanding, you are 30% there by owning the domain name :) WP is a great program for creating your blog posts and blog, but not my first choice for hosting. I highly recommend Blue Host. Typepad will let you set up a redirect so you should be fine. Call me if it gets all crazy and confusing :)

Well that is perfect as bluehost is what I set up. Hooray. I spent the better part of yesterday navigating transfers and codes and that sort of stuff. I will call you!

Good decision to go with WordPress. Here's a great resource you might want to check out: http://tentblogger.com/launch-wordpress-blog/. This guide by John Saddington was what I used to set up my WP blog. It is so helpful!

I also love green color. It is our wedding theme color. You have such a great talent. It is a good thing that you will still continue blogging because you inspire many people. Btw, do you have a new domain name? You can use this Domain Checker: https://members.optimalhosting.com/domainchecker.php
