Sorry Mom-I was wrong, you were right. Jane Austen rules. My mom has for years tried to convince me that the romantic charm of those 18th century tales were worth my time. I would try and try (really I did) and oh, I just thought they were dull. Snore City. Well I have a new theory. Every woman reaches a point in her life where they are ready for Jane Austen, and I have reached that point.
What caused the thaw? (Sorry again Mom..) Peer pressure. I was invited to go see Becoming Jane.
Me: "Uh..hmm-ok..well..yeah-I'd like to get out." So I broke down and admitted that I had never been sucked into the world of Jane. But I started thinking and now that my beloved Harry has ended, it might be time to start something new. So I rented Emma and loved it. (Don't tell him I told you-but Dustin did too. ;) Then we had to do Clueless. Then on to Pride and Prejudice.
Which I have now watched I think 5 times? (This is where that garland spawned from.) Oh how I have been drawn to words like ...sir and..Miss Elizabeth. My mom wanted us to give Eliza the middle name of Beth when she was born and I was like "Hello? Eliza-Beth? Duh?" Now I almost wish we had. :) Now she's stuck with Lauren as a middle name. Nothing very Mr. Darcy about that, huh?
I still haven't seen Becoming Jane. It's not playing anymore in the local theater so we'll have to wait for it to go to video. In the meantime I will have to catch up on the rest of the Austen legacy. I hope you guys like the music-I won't even begin to tell you how long it took me to figure that out. Now that I've finally figured it out, I'll have to use it more often, so if you don't like my particular choice for the day, go ahead and mute me. ;)
Sandi
